BE CAREFUL when you pick your dentist. You may have heard great things about the office but if the office brings in an outside dentist run for your life! I thought I had picked the right office and dentist. Then a “traveling specialist” was brought in for the procedure – a bone graft and sinus lift, serious stuff. In 10 days, the whole area was septic. It was three months before the pain was gone and the multiple errors were corrected by an ENT specialist and dental surgeon at CIMA. The surgery – with both doctors – took over two hours and was done under general anesthesia. BE CAREFUL
VictoriaTMemberMy husband and I both have Medicare part A because it’s free. When I needed shoulder surgery, we debated returning to the US and going the Medicare route. Medicare would have covered 80% of the cost. Factor in airfare, hotel, meals and other things not covered by part A and the cost was over $15,000. So we went to CIMA where they did the surgery for $6,500.
Medicare? Nah!
September 25, 2015 at 7:35 pm in reply to: Your safety & security in costa rica – police salaries #202507VictoriaTMemberInteresting data comparison of US and CR police salaries. Of course, in the US you need $88k. And aren’t we always saying that an expat could live on $1000 a month?
That notwithstanding, the cops here need a bit more in salary
VictoriaTMemberThe water here in Aguacate was tested by the government (gov wanted us to add chlorine/fluoride). The water is so pure that they backed off the request.
VictoriaTMember
No that is not true. If you have residency (either temporary or permanent) and a valid driver’s license from another country, you can get a CR driver’s license. That license has an expiration date on it. If you only have a foreign driver’s license, it is only valid for 90 days. Then you need to go out of the country for the 90 days to start over. If you have applied for residency but have not gotten it yet, you still have to go out of the country every 90 days to re-validate your foreign driver’s license.
Thank you! That is the information I had that I was told was wrong. Once again, this site has saved me 🙂
VictoriaTMemberAre you sure you need one? It depends where you live I suppose
VictoriaTMemberHere’s the real question – is it $1000 for the implant or does the cost include the restoration as well.
VictoriaTMemberWe have friends who have purchased and renovated Tico homes for far less than you budget and they love them. We have friends who have had homes both “stick built” and “factory built” and they love them as well. The factory homes come in much less $100 a sq. ft.
VictoriaTMemberLocally, we had an expat selling at an open market. It was fine for months, then there was an argument with another seller who reported her to the police. She had to shut down because she was not a resident.
VictoriaTMemberMust be some step missing….
VictoriaTMemberAh but it has. Checked it a long time ago but all the papers are in now…
VictoriaTMemberThe IRS and other government agencies have become way too invasive. If governments around the world said “no” to this crap, what would the US do? Refuse to buy/sell/lend to those countries? Nonsense. Somebody needs to swat the big bully who picks on its own people.
VictoriaTMember
Do you have any written proof of this please VictoriaT?
If you have, please publish it here or forward it to me. If there was wrongdoing, you can show that here, otherwise it’s a little unfair to accuse them of something that we cannot verify.
If there is no written evidence then this thread will have to be deleted.
Yes, I have written proof. I invested in a beach area project. One or two houses were completed and then building stopped while Randy built himself a new larger home in CR. Needless to say, the beach project was never completed. I read the article where Randy cried about a corrupt official – don’t believe a word of it. Randy was here for quite a while and even told us he occasionally “greased the wheels” to get projects moving. I learned my lesson.
VictoriaTMemberI was wondering about getting our stock certificates out of the US. They are held through Wells Fargo at the moment but maybe it would be better to have them out of the US and in-hand?
VictoriaTMemberThey left after taking money from investors and not completing projects.
