I’m wondering if its possible for someone else to go to Caja for us to set up an appointment so we will be able to apply the first time we go to the Caja office.
Your attorney has people who do legwork such as this. Ask him if he will make arrangements to set the appointment for you.
waggoner41Member
I am working wtih Javier Zavaleta/Residency in Costa Rica and following his instructions, but I wanted to get as much input as possible. He seemed to believe that it would take more than one day to apply for Caja. He scheduled my appointment for Migracion right after he received notice that my residency application had been approved.
Best listen to your attorney. If anything can go wrong you can bet it will go wrong.
You are facing two issues:
1 – We expats are results oriented while the Costa Ricans are process oriented and much slower to get things done.
2 – Everyone will be recovering from the Christmas/New Year two week break when all government offices are closed. Getting appointments at that time of year will take time.waggoner41Member
I went to an INS office today and was shocked at the price of liability insurance if one of my part-time workers is hurt on the job.
It was explained that the insurance deposit is for a full time worker. In this case, the deposit was $800. At the end of each month, I report who worked and how many hours. At the end of the year, the actual amount owed would be deducted from the deposit and the remainder, if any, rolled over to the next year.
Is this how it works?
Thanks.
Check me on this but I think if your workers are on contract they are responsible for any injury.
waggoner41MemberI am grateful that I have my roadside assistance in house.
I drive a 1980 Datsun pickup and Marcos has come to my rescue five times.
Once, while driving the neighbors 2001 Chevy SYV, the Pista Patrol came to my aid when the mechanic failed to tighten the bolts on the left front wheel and it bounded down the highway for about 100 yards into oncoming traffic. Luckily traffic was light and it missed everyone. I now have the habit of checking wheel bolts when they are repaired or changed.

The dry season is coming to Guanacaste, more time outdoors, more time for mosquito bites. I’ll be in SJO next week, and I am looking to buy plants soon for planting before the end of the rainy season.
Gracias,

It would seem to me that anyone who has spent any amount of time in Costa Rica and can not speak to the Ticos in their own language is not here for any good reason except to live high on the hog on the cheap.
Is it no wonder that some of the Ticos disrespect us expats?

They change the laws more frequently than they do their underwear.

These are questions better put to Google Earth technicians. Costa Rica is probably not among the most important areas to consider for street view although I was surprised that the San Jose view has 3D buildings.

What US bank are you using?
I responded by Private Mail.

I am waiting for my application to be approved. I need to do a second border run in order to be able to continue driving my car on my California Driver’s License. Do I still need to show an airline ticket back to the US and $500 in cash at the Panama border? I did do that the first time I went to the Panama border, but it is a real pain in the neck to get a airplane ticket and then request a refund. Can’t I just show proof of my Residency Application at the Panama border?
Why not just obtain your Costa Rica drivers license?
I did this in 2008 while my residency was in lengthy process and never left again. I still have my CA drivers license in case I go back but the CR license is also valid in California.waggoner41Member
If an individual ONLY has CAJA insurance and lives in the San Jose area and needs to go to the hospital whether it be on an Outpatient basis or involves being admitted is there a single “major” (what I mean by that is NOT a short-term Emergency Clinic with limited resources) hospital that they would go to? Let’s assume someone had a heart attack.
My understanding is that hospitals such as CIMA or Clinical Biblica would not be options if you are reliant on CAJA since those are private hospitals.
Am curious as to which specific hospitals are available to CAJA members. Thank You.
Who would that be?
Nixon and Clinton. However by consensus opinion our most corrupt president was Warren Harding and he wasn’t a lawyer so it seems that the lawyer/non-lawyer classification is no indication of honesty or lack thereof.
Clinton was never disbarred but did received a 5 year suspension of his license in Arkansas in April 2001 which ended in 2006 and as a result the Supreme Court suspended him for 5 years. I don’t think he ever asked for reinstatement.

Please share your experiences, difficulties, suggestions on moving bank accounts from the U. S. to C.R.
I don’t know if our bank here could send the money directly to a bank in Costa Rica. Thanks for your help.
