unless of course he has a pretty ho hanging in the shed.
Thanks, that’s helpful. If it’s a stupid question, I apologize, but my understanding is that you’re less likely to get messed with if you have local people looking out for you.
it was tounge in cheek, yet too,the thing about any area,is that immidiate vicinity with which you live in.your relationship to the community etc. etc.
when I lived on calle Hermossa folks got robbed rather regularly.I had an apt. on one end, where my brother lived.he had to have the amenities,A/C hot water, full fridge and stove, cable,A real piece of american architecture he is.
me,I lived at the old yoga camp, in A cabina,in both places we were friendly with everyone, the local folk and the gringitos. we never ever had issues for the whole year, yet all totaled about 14 crimes of the robbery ilk took place.
really,it is about presence though.at some point the goal should be to be aware of whether they are just penny ante or for real invaders.

I read about 2 years ago of an American in his sailboat just of the coast of CR on the Pacific side. The USA ship came upon him less than 1/8 mile from shore. They searched his boat and arrested him for having 1 ounce of pot in the nigh stand in his cabin. irrc
U.S. war on drugs policy in action.

Tons of coke running up the coast and millions of dollars running down the coast and the U.S. has an ounce of pot to show for their interdiction effort? Hmmm.

I think I’d like to hear better results than that.
youtube “us coast guard makes 48 mil $ bust.
make sure you jump through all the hoops to become a legal resident of costa rica. many people who complain about the mexicans move here and live as perpetual tourists without ever getting proper legal residency all the while bitching about the immigration problems in the US.
exactly.I’m here now, working out the ins and outs.
it means alot to me to do things as properly as possible.
and like TXjackie said,Markus,my GP too were from foriegn countries, they did the immigration thing,my mom too as a little girl.
mt stepfather is panamanian,he came here in 57,in 61 he was A citizen.
I do know firsthand how they felt.
it was a big deal for them to stand up and recite the pledge of allegiance with tears of pride in their eyes.
not A friggin bag full of savings like the maxicans,to take back and build some small biz in A tourist town or live good off their time here.
I’ve had mexicans work for me.the ones I employed were the one who took time off to go do document work, and get real liscenses, and whatever else they had to do to stay.
I have alot of friends from other countries who pride themselves on becoming citizens.
I’m from miami,I know the deal.
and some of the folks think they are taking lettuce picking jobs,GMAFB,they have most of the const. jobs here in S.Fl. and it’s cheating american scumbag contracxtors giving them the jobs, and scumbag gringos letting them do the work for the contractors.

I have been waist deep in the everglades swamp as A kid fixing swamp buggies and airboats, and doing const. since I was put on the roof at 9.
that makes costa Rica the land of milk and honey for me,yeehaw,
Thanks for another heads-up, Scott. I appreciate finding the information you present here and I also enjoy the opportunity to discuss these matters with reasonable people. Those who are not reasonable can join in too but it seems some of them prefer not to have their silly ideas challenged at all. They can always listen to the endless nonsense from Rush Limbaugh or Fox TV if they don’t have the mental ammunition to carry on here.
rush is A loud mouthed junkie that got a pass because some folk think of him as somebody.
Scott, Isn’t it possible to live in Costa Rica without bashing/hating the United States? I believe you do more harm to CR than good with your constant bashing of our government. I for one am glad you are gone. And your last tirade is the one that caused me to remove your We Love Costa Rica from my inbox permanently. Tom C.
grain of salt, and momma used to say “pounda son, pounda”.which meant sit down, relax and some things you gotta take with A pound of salt.
theirs things I find offensive to me as an american, and other bleeding heart gringos have an issue with me and my opinion.
the irony,my “opinion” often is rooted in personal life experience.
Scott has his opinion, and sometimes he’s dead on.I’ll be the first to say it,and then to,his ability/right to express it.
often I get overlooked, and by the same virtue,I overlook others,or some of the things they say, sometimes not.
I am going back to Costa, and by some measure I’d like to meet the others on this site, whether we agree 100% or not.
everyone has something I want to take with me and some things I would leave.
we were A great country,we are short of that. and why? we became so involved in personal gains that we handed the ball to others who just got greedy or tired short of the goal.and we all will pay the price,as americans.
I do every day.my life blood, construction has been handed off to illegal immigrants.and who hands it to them?
major corps. who do not authenticate their green cards, work papers and citizenship.then, the homeowner, the joe schlep who looks at saving A few bucks and doesn’t question the roofer,or the landscaper,or painter or contractor as to the authenticity of his help.he’s just happy saving A few bucks, and screw the american who plays by the rules for work, taxation and wholesome business methods.
being scammed in america,by americans, and having the govt. turn A blind eye.
why? because of the gain.these illegals with fake papers have taxes removed from their checks, and at the end of the year they don’t file for A return.why? because the social security number they used is going to be used by 10 others at A minimum.
thats A pretty financial gain/profit for the IRS who in turn rolls it to the govt. fund base.
I know this as A fact.for anyone who chooses to view this as slander, please,I’ll PM you my adress, you can bring me to court.
I dare say,I’ll counter and retire on your nickle.
or,chances are,I’ll go by way of the extraction method the govt. uses to hush those and others whom they’ve removed for exposing their pink undies.
we are not great any longer, and we are, admittedly dirty players.

Don’t you guys understand how important the U.S. has been to CR?
How many of you were here ten years ago? Do you remember when the police were riding mopeds with blue lights? I used to call them the blue light special cops.
If it was not for the U.S. dumping money on items such as aviation, training, equipment and so on, Costa Rica would still be walking to the drug raids! Ten years ago Costa Rica was crying for the help because they don’t have the money or the training! With out the help of the U.S. you would not see cops with new uniforms walking around San Jose, you would not see them making any kind of dent in the cartels and you would see more corruption than there is today.
Last nigh my family and I were walking around downtown San Jose and seen a huge improvement from ten years ago, with young police officer everywhere.
I think Scott if you don’t see this you are missing a bigger picture. What would have happened if the U.S. said no to helping CR. Do you think you would be having as many expats living in CR?
Americans are extraordinarily naive and simultaneously arrogant about their relative value in the world. More importantly, they are completely ignorant of the harm, of the immense damage their corporate and personal economic fanaticism and greed has caused to the environment and to other people. I am sick of hearing and watching the chest beating and saber rattling from a dysfunctional culture with a significant drug addicted population.
God forbid we should sink lower and have drug parks where the purchase and use of drugs is legal like they do in england and then the whole legally accepted culture of amsterdam.
the netherlands have heroin that is available to folks.this is A sanctioned program.then they have drug replacement therapy like the states.
at least theirs still the illegality of it here for illicit drugs.you sell heroin you go to jail, not line up at the govt. in stitution to recieve it.
theirs a whole allowed and thriving metropolis of addicts in england.
they call it the junkies paradise.
theirs alot wrong with the states yep,I will agree, yet when it comes to drugs,it’s not a dilema owned solely by us.
thats just silly to think that way.
it’s like saying all german people are jew haters.
or all floridians hate cubans.

why not A 3 night type event?
theirs the Doce Lunas in Jaco,I’ve seen several reggae/reggaetone shows there,it’s A nice compound.housing, resturaunt, pool, large covered area, and then opens to a patio, then yard area.
it held easily 600 people for A show.they did their own promotion.
you could do the Guanacaste thing, then Jaco, then Quepos area.
I know nothing about them or venues, just a thought.
that’s you, that’s me, and a lot of people i know, but that’s not a lot of people and for more than 100 years those other people have kept up the demand for illegal drugs. other countries have their problems as well, but the US is out of control, and the War on Drugs or the Just Say No campaign have not even put a dent in it.
their are all sorts of corrupt ways to maintain an addiction.which is an obsessive compulsive behavior.without an antidote, other than to find the cause, sometimes it’s single rooted, often the case is that it’s not.
addiction and the disease of,manifest itself in other areas,is A dysfunction that usually isn’t adressed until the train is already headed for the ravine.
the ability to change it’s course is out of the said persons hand, the impact is not.
theirs alot of things we become overwhelmed with.
I am grateful today that many many others who decided to do something functional about the dilema.
my life in one hand sucks terribly, and in the other,it’s ok.
so,as with the old indian addage, which wolf do I feed? theirs A few positive things happening,I just have to be active in their coming to fruition.
sometimes I am consumed with hate over certain aspects that put my life on the downward spiral.I get sorely bent about some certain things that are happening here,in the states, that have measures in place that shouldn’t allow certain things to happen, yet, measurably, this whole country is turning a blind eye and allowing our quality to be tampered with to the point that it is an economic nightmare for some, and those without rights are doing better than the american himself.
and the exploitation is by both the wealthy, and the Govt.
proactive,thats what I must be,
Amierca has had a longstanding love of drugs going back to the turn of the century when morphine, cocaine, heroin, and pot were very much in demand. We are, quite frankly, a nation of drug addicts — if not legal mind-altering drugs, then illegal, and nothing much is ever going to change because it hasn’t changed in more than 100 years.
it does change, when folks get sick and tired of being sick and tired.
Hey, you sound like a really nice guy. Can hardly wait to meet you when you get out of jail again.
who they gonna use for soldiers?
illegal mexican immigrants?
their should be a bounty on illegal immigrants, and then penalize americans who use them for employment as a fine to pay those of us that’ll trap’em and bring them back.and if they are caught A second, third or fifth time exe3cute them.
why just yesterday me and A buddy were in Mc Donalds,I looked out the window and saw a short ‘lil brown guy workin in A Mc D’s uniform,I said “oye,Mira, los Hombres de immigracion en el otro lado”. that dude took off across the parking lot.
when we got to the window I asked for the manager to let them know what happened.
he like to have shot me if he had A gun.
I get A kick out of doing this when they arte landscaping and such.
we saw A wedding in A park, they had about 30.I hollered MIGRA real loud, the folks were some upset.they had to serve food for their guest.the bride was not happy.
this country is for sale.
and Santa Ana said it in one of his speeches,”the mexican people will have their territory back” and how true them words are, from 160 or so years ago. it was around 1853-54 if my history is correct.

been to meetings in several places, montezuma has A meeting,in the coolest shack.I wish I knew how to post pics.Jaco has AA and NA meetings.
in the states I’m solely NA,since I’m A junkie.yet when I lived in costa, and when I go back I cross dress.theirs not NA or AA everywhere so I’m ok with switch hitting.
and when I got clean in prison I actually had only AA so i’m familiar with all their lit. steps tr. concepts, and still stay abreast of it.
My biz partner, she’s an LCSW with all the extra letters and i have formed a corp for A long term facility for people from the states, and then A sponsorship program for the Ticos.
personally I don’t believe in short term facilities.I say 3-6 mos. or keep your money and go to meetings.I’ve been associatted with many friends, and an ex wife who’ve worked in centers.they are to engrossed in the profit, and ins. extortion.
I’ve been clean 22 years and have been fortunate to have seen it all.
