I had to stop laughing before I could respond to your posting. You don’t really want to get me started on this subject because I’ve been known to lauch into a rant about all of the havoc he and his cronies have wreaked on our country since his reign of terror began. I have never voted republican in my life but even lifelong republicans I’ve known have switched sides. I think Charles Barkley recently said it best: “I used to be a replublican until they lost their f…ing minds!” I’d love to chat at length with you about politics and life so here is my e-mail: nbennettco@netzero.net Oh, I almost forgot, we hope to start building in 8-12 months and first want to build a small cabina while we ponder how much more of a house we want or need, and then later rent it out. My sense of life in CR is that one needs very little to be happy there and we’re at a point in our lives where quality of life is far more important than material possessions: Less is more! Hope to hear from you. Nora

Right On, Marvilla!!! The Ticos are paid so little as it is, I am happy to see that they can profit while, at the same time, I feel like I’m getting a fantastic deal. People who are obsessed with getting the cheapest price for everything, don’t get the concept of one’s personal sense of value: what you can afford, what it would cost you in the states, and what one personally feels is a fair price to get a house built that you’re happy with. There are far more important things in life than money, and creating a little goodwill amongst the people who have welcomed us into their country and community can never be a bad thing.

Hi Maravilla, We recently bought a manzana of land just outside of San Ramone in Magallenes and would really love to get the name of your contractor. Building a house in the U.S. is an overwhelming proposition and we REALLY don’t know where to begin with this sort of project in Costa Rica. We want something simple and don’t have any pressing time schedule, just someone who is honest, does good work and can help us through this daunting process. I have enough gray hairs already! Please help!
