Gas prices in Costa Rica
With the price of oil now established well above the $130-a-barrel mark, fuel prices look set to continue rising to new records.
According to official statistics from the Energy Information Administration the US average price per gallon for 10th June 2008 across the USA is now $4.039 per gallon with prices lower on the east coast $4.019 than the west coast $4.325
Gas Prices in Costa Rica as of 10th June 2008:
- Regular gas is 604 colones per liter = 2,286 colones per gallon (US$4.40)
- Super gas is 621 colones per liter = 2,351 colones per gallon (US$4.53) and
- Diesel is 587 colones per liter = 2,222 colones per gallon (US$4.28)
(1 US gallon = 3.78541178 liters)
In Costa Rica average gas prices are only slightly higher than on the west cost of the USA. In June 2008, the average price of gasoline in Costa Rica was US$4.40 per gallon.
Taxes on Gas:
In Costa Rica, taxes make up about 33% of the price for regular gasoline and 30.1% for diesel. In the UK taxes make up 75% of the price and about 19% in the US….

We Should Consider Ourselves Lucky:
So consider yourselves very lucky in the USA because if you were living in the UK, you would be paying nearly three times as much GBP116.9 per litre which is US$8.64 per gallon for gasoline, or as we call it ‘petrol.’
