As a boomer I have memories that go back further than some can recall. I acknowledge there are many whose memories are far greater than my own. Please join me in a challenge of the minds and enjoy the process as we take the journey on how it relates to Costa Rica.

  1. I remember when a loaf of bread was a less than a quarter.
  2. I remember when ice was sold in large blocks and hence the name for refrigerators was icebox.
  3. I remember penny candy.
  4. Telephone calls only cost a dime.
  5. Bus rides in Chicago were only 10 cents and you could transfer to other buses or the subway.
  6. Music was on vinyl.
  7. I remember when you dialed a number.
  8. I remember when there were no area codes and numbers started with a prefix of two letters.

  10. I remember when some considered the swivel of Elvis’ hips on Ed Sullivan was profane.
  11. TV had husband and wives sleeping in separate beds.
  12. Catholic mass was in Latin and nuns only wore habits.
  13. Musicians performed in beautiful attire.
  14. I remember roller skates with metal wheels.
  15. I remember cars that seated three people in front.
  16. I remember when few houses had typewriters and computers had not even entered the realm of imagination.

Well, you get the picture and while your age and remembrances may be different it’s a fun exercise. However it won’t be nearly as much fun if a few years hence you add, I remember when lots of an acre plus could be purchased in Costa Rica near the beach for less than $100,000!!
