The past weekend gave me and my family an excellent opportunity to enjoy the activities that only the Central Valley has to offer.

On Saturday and Sunday, we went to the racetrack called “La Guacima“, that many of you have probably seen from the air as you fly in or out of the international airport in San José.

I had seen the track from the air, and heard that there were events, but I was surprised at the level of quality of the venue, participants and the experience. Like any other event in Costa Rica, when you get a few thousand Ticos together, there is always good food, muchas cervezas and lots of fun.

We were able to park our car right along the side of the track at a turn and bring in our own food and drinks. It is tailgating Tico style with lots of people cooking tortillas, salchichon, and again… Bastante cerveza (plenty of beer).

The event was the Central American 300 and there were five classes of racing ranging from 4 cylinder imports, motorcycles, karts, and big V8 GT1 cars like Jaguars, Corvettes, and a Toyota Supra driven by the owner of Purdy Motors.

The next big event is November 7-8 so if you’re in town and you love karting and car races, you might want to check it out.
