Living in Jaco, Costa Rica – After the November storms update
The past week Costa Rica has endured a ridiculous amount of rain.
I still haven’t heard official numbers but I read one article saying the Quepos area saw nearly 50 inches of rain in about 3 days! To give you an idea, Seattle’s annual average rainfall is 36.2 inches.
Needless to say, that’s a lot of rain and that much rain is going to cause problems, but fortunately for us in Jaco we weren’t effected all that much. In Jaco, we saw no sort of casualties, we didn’t lose power or water and saw little flooding. All of our streets remained accessible. There were a few commercial parking lots and homes that had water issues, but nothing serious.
In fact the only real inconvenience we really had was our internet was a little spotty for a day.
Sadly though in other parts of the country where the poorest people have built unsafe homes in high-risk areas, people have lost their homes and about 25 people have lost their lives.
What’s been impressive to see is that many in the Jaco community quickly have come together in collecting clothes, foods, and other donations to help those families. If you would like to know more how you can help.
