Living in Sunny Samara. November’s First Friday social event a big success…
Expats and locals in Playa Samara enjoy getting together for a scheduled “First Friday” social gathering! It has proven to be an extremely popular event that everyone looks forward to, and attendance has been very consistent, even as the months and seasons change.
VIP Member Bill Knight, who is the First Friday originator and organizer who enjoyed the same success with a similar idea in Florida before he and his wife retired and moved to Samara in 2008 says that:
“Thanks to everyone for showing up and enjoying a great afternoon at Hacienda del Mar Hotel & Restaurant in Carrillo.
Many in attendance said that this was one of, if not our best gathering to date – I’ll leave that for others to judge and just remain thankful that so many continue to attend and obviously have a great time during our monthly events.
The staff at Hacienda Del Mar could not have done a better job with the service, the drinks, the snacks and bocas – all afternoon and into the evening! So many people commented that they never knew Hacienda Del Mar even existed, but they said they would definitely come back for lunch or dinner.
Hotel owner Oscar Vargas joined us for most of the afternoon and enjoyed the company of over 55 people in attendance! He mentioned that we are welcome to come back anytime, as it was one of the best days for his hotel.
It was great to see so many of our recently returned friends who made it back just in time for First Friday… (Les & Paula (Canada); Bobbi (Canada, and elsewhere); Peter & Maggie (Scotland); and others whose names escape me), plus new residents Kurt & Jewels, Lisa & Brookie and more… our numbers are growing!
On the other side of the spectrum we are all sad to see Brooke, Brian and baby Cole leave our community and return to the States – but as Brooke said today: “We can always come back!”
We made it through the rainy season with First Friday events at El Ancla, La Vela Latina and Pablito’s, so now it’s on to our great summer weather and more First Friday Fiestas! Watch this space for our announcements and check out the photographs for a bit of today’s festivities. Hopefully there will be more pictures to follow.
