Robyn Wright and her partner Henry Kantrowitz have lived and worked in different regions of Costa Rica, from the remote rain forests deep in the Golfo Dulce to Jaco on the Pacific coast and in the Central Valley.

Henry is a naturalist guide and founder member of the Birding Club of Costa Rica. Robyn had to return to California temporarily and has given permission to share this letter to Henry with us.

Hear it from the heart, just why Costa Rica is so right for so many.

“Oh my gosh, I just wrote a long letter and poof, it disappeared – I was describing my feelings towards Costa Rica and how this place (California) doesn’t feel like home for me.

The forests and warm waters and creatures in Costa Rica are what make me feel alive.

The beat-up cars and pot holes, the little houses say that things don’t have to be perfect to create joy. The pseudo-sophistication of the States has a toll, lots of anti-depressants and perfect landscapes and concrete create the atmosphere of despair.

Give me pura vida any day!

OK, the frustration of the systems can be tough to deal with, but driving and seeing nothing but concrete structures in the States is also very tough on a soul.

I want to walk. I want to feel the humidity. I want to see faces as I walk the streets. I miss Costa Rica. I miss our lifestyle. I love our lifestyle; what we have created for ourselves in Costa Rica is wonderful. And I think we had to lay down a lifestyle for these last two years so when we are ready to land, we know what we are landing on.

We have built a lifestyle that works and creates peace and joy in our lives The simple life of walking and actually seeing people and greeting strangers and being able to interact with others with just a smile, and enjoying being in nature, beats the hurried pace of the States that screams ‘hurry’ and ‘buy’ and ‘gotta have this’ and ‘gotta have that’ to make my life easier and more fulfilled, is simply a lifestyle of forgetfulnessà

Forgetting who they are and where they are going… the answer is simple – nowhere; because there’s nowhere to go but here, on earth, at this moment in time, and to enjoy this moment in time… I miss you.”
