About the Owner, Ray Swilley: I have worked in law enforcement for over 24 years and in 2010 I was fortunate enough to retire from the Polk County Sheriff’s Department.

During my career, I started out as a deputy sheriff and moved through the ranks as a narcotics detective, robbery detective, homicide detective, and finally, I was promoted to Sergeant before I retired.  After being promoted to Sergeant, I was in charge of organizing a tactical unit that was used to help control all of the high crime areas in our county.

In addition to working for the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, for the past 14 years, I have worked doing private, corporate security for several large companies throughout the United States, investigating thefts and making arrests of those involved in the crimes.

Several years ago, I visited Costa Rica with my uncle and cousin and I fell in love with the country.  Naturally, the country is beautiful and the people who live there are very nice and friendly.  They are very proud people who work hard and don’t expect their government to take care of them as so many people do here in the United States.

Over the past few years I have traveled throughout Costa Rica and my favorite place continues to be Atenas. The climate is always fantastic and the location is perfect. In fact, I fell so in love with Atenas that I used part of my retirement money to purchase a small piece of paradise on the side of a mountain to build 8 homes in a small development we have created called Las Brisas del Valle.

After making a career in law enforcement, I am looking forward to moving to Costa Rica with my family to enjoy the relaxed, peaceful lifestyle that this beautiful country has to offer.
