Atenas is a small mountain town located about halfway between San Jose and the central Pacific beaches (both under 30-minute drives). Said to have “El Mejor Clima del Mundo” (The Best Climate in the World), Atenas already has a large expat retirement community that enjoy the tranquility and convenience.
This quaint town consisting of just roughly 6 commercial blocks in the Centro has modern shopping and several great restaurants along with a popular farmers market on Friday mornings.The town has a terrific local bus system, and many inexpensive taxis for those who choose to not own a car.
Expats enjoy relaxing in the central park with the giant palm trees, manicured grass, and birds singing.
The community of expats find the local people to be wonderfully helpful and welcoming. There are garden clubs, classes for painting, dancing, yoga, cooking, karate and much more for the retiree to stay busy and enjoy there peace.
You will not find condos in Atenas as zoning does not permit them, only communities with single-family homes can be found. North American style single-family homes in Atenas range in price from $200K – $3 million.
