What’s It Really Like To Be Trapped in an Elevator Between Floors When The Power Goes Off in San José, Costa Rica?
Forgive my brief newsletter today but yesterday
was like a scene from one of those old, black and
white slap stick comedy movies.
It all started when I went out to meet friends for
dinner in San José and my car broke down after my
right front wheel hit a pothole which caused the
fan belt to come lo0se.
Being “mechanically challenged” myself, I had no
idea what had happened but a friendly cab driver
who was coming from the opposite direction stopped
to inform me that he could see the fan belt (la
faja) hanging down at the front of my car and this
angel of the night then spent 40 minutes fixing my
car for me…
As his hands worked around the very hot engine, the
most common expletive he used was “que hijo de puta
caliente..” but he fixed my car and seemed very happy
with the token of gratification ($20) I left with him…
And after returning from dinner – which thankfully
was delicious – I ended up trapped in the elevator
in my building between the 7th and 8th floors when the power failed at 1030pm…
What’s it really like to be trapped in the elevator
between floors when the power goes off?
Well obviously it’s like being in an elevator under
normal conditions except there are no lights and you
don’t move up or down…
What did you think I was going to say?
If you are more curious about the horrific conditions I endured, you can see a photograph I took of myself with my awesome new Samsung Galaxy Note II cellphone in the elevator during the blackout below…
